The Big Bucks in Going Green

It's amazing how big oil and other big companies are demonized by the left, yet there seems to be no scrutiny of the big money to be made in going green. NBC proudly touts how it is the green network and promotes climate change scares and we need to go green. HHMMM! It must be because they are so eco consious and want to better the planet. How about those evil big lobbyists bribing our Washington elites for passing legislation to benefit their companies bottom line. Going green is surely of purist good intentions of saving the planet for future generations, even if it means ensuring the future generations will remain poverty stricken and ill-equipped to deal with the challenges of the future to include climate change.

In 1997 CEO's and lobbyists met with President Clinton and Vice President Gore on the implementation of the much touted Kyoto Protocol. Kyoto would implement worldwide taxes on companies based on how much carbon they emitted to encourage switching to Wind and Solar energies. This was one of the leading energy companies which invested billions in green energy, the CEO Ken Lay the corporation ENRON. Kyoto if implemented will cause extreme hardships on industrialized nations with the pretense of slowing global warming even though it's authors admit the effect will be negligible. Dupont, British Petroleum, PG&E, Cinergy and not to mention the Trillions to be made by big governments around the world. Money that will be used to limit choices and freedom and keep poorer countries from advancing as they can't afford the very expensive green energies.

How about NBC and it's going green campaign? Surely it's all about saving the planet! Of course it doesn't hurt that General Electric owns NBC and it's affiliates where it gets free agenda promotion for all the far more expensive energy efficient appliances it sells. Oh how convenient that GE lobbied congress to pass laws mandating the three dollar light bulb they make in place of the 45 cent one. I fell for it bought the expensive energy efficient ones and saw no change in my electric bill, do I need to call a HAZMAT team to dispose of the Mercury filled bulbs that last longer, unless you use them more than four hours a day then the efficiency is decreased. GE made out on that lobby effort along with the local governments making more on the sales taxes on the more expensive bulbs.

How about the green leader in Al Gore, his intentions are strictly pure and he only covers necessary expenses right. Not quite, he has made millions from his movie, speaking fees and appearances around the world. Now he does purchase carbon offsets keeping him "Carbon Neutral", he is not reducing anything he just pays someone else to do it. But wait who is he paying? Oh! He pays Generation Investment Management who he just happens to be a member of the board and stockholder. He is effectively buying stock in his own companies and is banking on world governments forcing all of us to pay his company for our carbon offsets, how convenient for him and his cronies. Another fine example of the rich do gooder's getting richer while scolding the poor for not listening to them.

Now I have no problems with anyone who wants to go green. If cutting food production and eliminating land options by using millions of acres of land for windmills, solar array fields and growing fuel for green energy makes them feel better it's all good. If they want to use land less efficiently for Organic products and pay the higher price for them, great! Have at it. My problem is that many of them want to force everyone else to do it through force by eliminating our freedoms, raising taxes, and expanding government control over every aspect of our lives. If green energy was so efficient, economical and had a bright future it would not need billions of dollars in subsidies and companies would be clamouring for it. I would like just one green idea that does not involve raising taxes and expanding government, and it's not just taxes on companies there will be higher taxes on gas and many other everyday products increasing cost for the rich, middle class and poor alike. So it won't just be the rich who pay and get taxed it will be everyone.
